This space is all about seeking
the moments that cause
'excited chills' and creating a life
that's simple, authentic and beautiful.
I recall the excitement of the day. I have fond memories of the groom with no voice. I can picture our friends and family gathered to celebrate with us. I know I was excited to begin our life together and our honeymoon in France. I couldn't wait to be Matthew's wife. I was thrilled to have found 'the one'.
But I don't remember ever really picturing our future.
I mean, our decades out, long-range future.
I was content with the innocent blush of being a newlywed. Thrilled to simply be planning what to make for dinner (Let's be serious, that was 100% Matthew's job!) and how to decorate our first home.
I couldn't begin to imagine what our life would look like after 22 years.
And now that we are 'decades out', I'm acutely aware that there would have been no way to see how our path and our marriage would unfold. Zero chance of us predicting what the next twenty-two years would hold.
I'm not big on fortune telling or crystal balls.
As much as I prefer to feel in control of my life and to have an idea of what's ahead... I definitely don't want to 'know' too much. And, though we've faced some times that I think I'd gladly have omitted, I like that our life together continues to evolve with some mystery.
Today's post is merely a shout-out to my husband...
I'd marry you all over again.
Thank you for 22 wonderful years.
I look forward to living into the 'future' with you.
A future that we won't see until it becomes the past.
In case you missed it, I'd like to share a post from a few years ago. I realize that when I wrote those words, I couldn't even imagine or properly picture the time between then and now.
I'm good with not knowing how life will unfold... as long as Matthew and I are in it together.
Thanks for reading. Have an awesome weekend.
P.S. While the pizza photo has nothing to do with this post... it has everything to do with the past 22 years. Pizza has been a staple in our marriage. That is, until this year! I'm hoping we can rekindle our love of pizza, only now with cashew ricotta:-) Maybe there's even a slice or two in my immediate future. Fingers crossed.
