My cousin was married on Sunday. She and her husband are heading to Paris today for their honeymoon. Seems like reason enough to launch Paris Week on Excited Chills.
Paris won my heart on my very first visit. In college. School trip.
I still remember waking up and peering out the airplane window as we prepared to land. A light fog covered the city. Poking up through the mist was the Eiffel Tower.
I remember quietly gasping. The memory is still vivid. It felt like coming home.
My husband and I were married in 1996. We honeymooned for three weeks in France. It was incredible. We started in Paris and worked our way to Monte Carlo.
Though it was 18 years ago, our honeymoon remains one of our most amazing trips. Not only because it was the beginning of our marriage, but because the adventure of three weeks in a foreign country makes for interesting memories.
Over the years, I have returned to Paris many times. My love of the city grows with each visit. Here are some of my favorite spots.
1. Great, old, iconic dining locations-
Les Deux Magots
Café de Flore - personal favorite:-)
2. Museums - can't go wrong with these
Centre George Pompideu
Modern and quirky. Interesting building.
Musée de Louvre
Incredible and massive. Mona Lisa and Winged Victory- worth it.
Old train station. Amazing space. Degas' Ballerina paintings- stunning.
Hotel Joyce - Right Bank, 9th Arrondissement
Hotel de Fleurie- Left Bank, 6th Arrondissement
Hotel le Saint-Gregoire- Left Bank, 6th Arrondissement
Maybe this week of writing about Paris isn't such a good plan. I am feeling the tug already and it's only the first day of this cyber journey.
Thanks for reading. More tomorrow.
