Those who know me know that stripes are a staple in my wardrobe.
Every season. No exceptions. The love of stripes must be genetic because my daughter, Greta has an even stronger love of stripes than I do. In fact, her Instagram bio states…"I’m probably wearing stripes". Love that girl!
The Breton striped shirt originated in the French Navy and has become an indisputable classic. I had to include it in my 'must haves' short list.
Take a glance at the stripe-wearing icons below...
Just for clarity, when I talk about stripes…I’m generally speaking of horizontal stripes, combining two of the following colors; navy, white,
black and cream.
Vertical stripes and stripes of other colors are fine, but my obsession with stripes doesn't usually stray from the colors listed above. Although, I will include camel, sometimes. I admit that I’m a bit of a stripes purist. However, I admit this with no apologies. I’m happy with limiting my stripes to only a few types, as this makes it much easier to scan a store and know which stripes I’d like to try. There is no need for me to pause at red and black stripes because I know they aren’t authentically me.
I strongly believe that every woman should have at least one classic, Breton-style striped top in her wardrobe.
Navy and white or black and cream. The rest is a matter of personal taste.
A Breton striped top looks fantastic without any effort.
Add it to jeans and you’re good to go.
Chilly? Layer it with a cardigan or a blazer and you’re done.
The look is French and chic and simple. Pulled together and timeless without trying too hard.
If only every piece of clothing was as fabulous as the striped top!
