This Paris Week concept is causing me to miss The City of Light quite a bit. Must be almost time for a return trip!
Paris is a city known for its amazing shopping! It's true, the retail options are endless... and can be very expensive. There are three things that I try to shop for when I am in Paris. These items won't break the bank and help me feel French in my everyday life:-)
1. Scarves- This one is not up for discussion in my family. I always buy scarves when I travel. I only buy scarves abroad from street vendors. I drag my family to and fro to find the best selection. I buy several for me and more to give as gifts. They are usually available for under 10 euros a piece. Often if you buy a few, the price is even better. It's worth negotiating...in your best French. When I return home, I am always thrilled to have a bit of my vacation to wear.
2. Mini Eiffel Tower Replicas and Key Chains- These little gems are available on almost every corner. They are cheap metal. They come in bronze, silver, gold, and often bright colors as well. They are complete junk...until you get them home...then they are an adorable memento of your trip. You can usually scoop them up for about .50 euros each or less. Again, they are often less expensive in quantity. I love to tie them onto a package when giving a gift.
3. "French" lip balm- Head into a Monoprix. They are everywhere. Hit the cosmetic department (beware: every other department is also filled with awesome stuff) The lip balms and glosses are easy to identify even if you don't speak French. They are not expensive or difficult to transport home...yet you'll feel super chic when you use one on the way to pick up your kids from school.
Thanks for reading. More tomorrow.
