Welcome to the blog...
This space is all about seeking
EXCITED CHILLS and creating a
simple, authentic, beautiful life.
I do hope you'll stay a while!
I don’t know about you, but I have new denim on my mind! I can’t wait for the weather to change so that I can pull on a pair of jeans!
However, after my KonMari project…my denim collection offered slim pickings. I was definitely in need of a new pair of jeans (or two).
As a Personal Stylist for Anthropologie, it seemed only natural that I begin my search for new jeans there.
Are you desperate for new denim?
Read on. Here’s what I found…
A little insider info: Anthropologie has a few styles and brands of denim that are exclusive to them.
First up, AG denim. AG (Adriano Goldschmied) jeans are available from lots of retailers, the Stevie style is created just for Anthropologie. These jeans are made in the USA and have a bit of a cult-like following. In my experience, women who love Stevie jeans rarely buy any other styles.
The Stevie comes in several different lengths and washes, but the Stevie Ankle seems to be the most popular. This is a great choice for women of all heights. Designed to hit just above the ankle, this length looks just as chic when it stops a bit lower on the leg and can easily be cuffed or rolled slightly if it’s too long.
Next up is the Pilcro Brand. It’s exclusive to Anthropologie.
Insider info: A Pilcrow is the symbol for marking a new paragraph
and looks like this ¶.
For the fall 2015 season Pilcro has completely revamped their denim line! In the past, I’ve heard customers say that Pilcro jeans were dated, even frumpy…not modern enough to make her feel chic. Someone in home office was listening! Now the fabrics are being sourced from high-quality mills and the designs are contemporary and wearable.
I just bought my very first pair! Pilcro Hyphen.
I love them!
They are the softest jeans I’ve ever owned (sorry, Emerson). I could easily wear them on an airplane…the true test for me.
The new Pilcro jeans are stylish and comfortable. Well priced for premium denim with most styles costing around $148-$168.
Here’s a review for the Pilcro Hyphen Jeans from the Anthro website…
August 16, 2015
I am French girl, I did not know Anthropologie and I love!!!!!
Aesthetic/design: 5 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5
Sizing: True To Size
Yes, I recommend this product.
Style: Classic - simple and structured
I love a ringing endorsement from a French girl!
In addition to AG and Pilcro, Anthropologie carries about a dozen other denim brands. Citizens of Humanity are super popular at the Boulder store. The Rocket is a high rise, classic style and one of our best sellers.
Just maybe...you've heard me rave about my personal favorite from Citizens of Humanity. The Emerson. These are perfect for me since I prefer my everyday jeans to have a slightly slouchy boyfriend cut.
Two other great brands to check out online or at your local Anthropologie are...
Mother (the brain-child of two denim gurus, one from Citizens of Humanity and the other from 7 For All Mankind) and Paige Premium Denim
(created by Paige Adams-Geller, a former denim fit model)
When you're ready to shop...

I’m going to devote one more post to my experience with The KonMari Method.
Unfamiliar with this miraculous method of decluttering?
It’s from the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.
If you didn’t see my first post on this amazing method, you can catch up here.
In this post, I'm including two videos. They'll provide information about tidying a few additional categories- Books, Paper and Komono.
The Komono category is a big one! It basically includes all of the miscellaneous stuff in our homes. Ms. Kondo breaks this down into several sub-categories, making it much easier to work through effectively.
I’ve created two Cheat Sheets to help you start right now…even if you haven’t read the book. Drop your email address in the space below and
you'll have them in minutes!
While this topic may seem to have nothing to do with style…decluttering and wardrobe building are definitely related! If you have a closet full of clothing you don’t love, getting dressed becomes a chore. Using the KonMari Method, you decide what you’re going to keep based on whether it sparks joy and you discard the rest. After going through this process it’s impossible to not love your clothes.
After all, you’ve only kept what you love!
(Or perhaps, you’ve discarded so much that you really have nothing left.
If that’s the case, I'll cover how to start building a wardrobe from scratch in a future post!)
Okay, stay with me. I truly believe that this process of tidying and decluttering your home will make it possible to have a wardrobe (and a life) you absolutely love.
Here are the videos....
As I've said, there is a method to this madness…
Deciding what to keep becomes more obvious as you work through the categories. You'll gain momentum and there will be less hesitation and less guilt about removing what doesn’t spark joy. Once you realize how much better you feel with fewer ‘things’, you’ll be on a purging roll!
Remember, what you are eliminating doesn’t spark joy…so let it go!
Living in a home surrounded only by what brings joy, is incredible! This process continues to amaze me. I believe in the Law of Attraction…but I often had a difficult time manifesting good things. I now realize that living with the clutter was only creating more clutter. Since I've lightened the load and kept the belongings that spark joy…guess what I seem to be attracting?
Right, more joy! Wish I had done this sooner. Don’t wait!
Try this amazingly simple method for yourself. It will change your life!
Remember, my FREE Cheat Sheets include guidelines to help you start tidying and a complete list of the categories…you can request it above!

I’d love to help you begin…
Can eliminating the clutter from your home really change your life?
I was desperate to find out.
The past few years have been very stressful for me. My husband and I have been overwhelmed by a few big, ugly situations. Messy circumstances involving money, business, family and friendships.
It has been rough.
Knowing that clutter increases stress levels, I longed to clean out the excess and create a more peaceful home. Our home contained a normal amount of clutter. We had some systems that worked well and many areas where we could do better. These ‘hot spots’ created stress because they were never completely handled.
As the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the master appears”.
Enter the master, Marie Kondo.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo is inspiring and informative. I couldn’t read it fast enough. I was ready to begin the
process after the second chapter. Encouraged by the simplicity of the KonMari Method, I enlisted the help of my three children and we embarked on a major, household-wide tidying mission. The whole house took a little over two weeks.
I finished the final category on a Tuesday.
The next day, the very next day, I received word of complete resolution in two of the ‘ugly situations’ we had been struggling to resolve.
Within 24 hours of tidying my house, I experienced huge positive changes in my life. Coincidence? Maybe, but I prefer to believe that by letting go of a whole bunch of stagnant stuff…there is finally some space for positive vibes to hang out!
There is magic is this method!
When this book was first released in the U.S. back in January, 2015, I honestly didn’t think I needed to read it. I clean out closets as part of my job. I wasn’t sure Ms. Kondo could teach me anything new.
Boy, was I wrong!
The KonMari Method uses techniques I’ve never seen before.
Simple. Direct. No nonsense.
I highly recommend that you read the book. It can be read in three evenings, tops. However, I understand that you might just want to start tidying!
Wish there was a cheat sheet? You’re in luck!
I've created a worksheet packed with the information needed to begin
this life-changing process. Just enter your email below and I'll send it
right to your inbox. In addition, I'm documenting my tidying journey on
YouTube...if you'd like to follow along.
Clear out the clutter and prepare for wonderful changes!

Summer apparel is on sale! Big time!
Many retailers have summer styles on sale for up to 75% off of original prices. These crazy deep discounts may seem like amazing deals, but it's best to approach these racks with caution.
The summer's end clearance racks can hold incredible treasures...but you need to know what to snag and what to leave.
The goal is always to...
Only purchase items that you love! Pieces that will truly enhance your wardrobe, regardless of the price.
The SALE rack in August casts a spell. It's easy to be overwhelmed and lured into spending due to the extreme savings. Don't do it!
Right now, it's best to think 'transition'. No one wants to see summer come to an end, yet it always does and then summer merchandise looks out of place. Don't waste your money on pieces that won't improve your fall wardrobe.
Will this piece coordinate with my fall clothing?
Can I find ways to keep wearing this piece as the weather changes?
If the answer is "Yes" and the price is right....grab it!
I use these guidelines when trying to decide which pieces will work
in the coming season...
The Basics -
Fabric. Cotton will pair better with fall fabrics than linen. Linen almost always says 'summer'. Cotton t-shirts and blouses can translate into fall much easier than linen. For sweaters, seek heavier, chunkier knits. These will make more sense as the temperature drops.
Color. Choose darker, richer colors over lighter, paler shades. Great price on a t-shirt? No problem, just lean toward the color that will play well with fall hues.
Sleeve length. Look for full length sleeves over 3/4 sleeves. It's challenging to layer a top with 3/4 sleeves without feeling like your sleeves are smooshed at the elbow. A full length sleeve is much easier to layer.
Fabric weight. Avoid blouses and sweaters that are just too flimsy. Summer tops are breezy to combat the heat, but they get lost or rumpled when layering and tend to look out of place with heavier fall fabrics.
Below are some items currently on sale at Anthroplogie. I use these as examples because I know the pieces and the quality from working in the store at the Personal Stylist. I can honestly and easily recommend each of the items shown below. Click on photos for more information. Please note that you can use these tips at any retailer.
This tank by TLA is soft and comfortable. Great color to take you into fall.
Easy to layer for warmth.
I own this Maeve blouse in a stripe. It has a beautiful drape and washes well.
Perfect for wearing into fall and even winter.
I love this poncho! Super soft and ideal for the cooler weather of fall. This would layer well over a long sleeved t-shirt. The indigo stripes are super with darker denim.
If you find a pair of great fitting jeans on sale this season...buy them. In general, denim is denim regardless of the season. Things to consider when buying jeans on summer clearance...
Color. Dark colors will usually work best with fall clothing. Inky dark washes will feel at home with the rich shades of fall.
Length. Full length or longer cropped denim is more versatile. Summer brings a lot of cropped styles. Once it turns chilly, it's nice to have the option to just roll the hem a little bit.
Citizens of Humanity Rocket- these jeans have something of a cult following.
Those who love them jump at the chance to score any wash on sale!
These are long enough for booties or flats or to tuck into tall boots.
The Very Summery Stuff- Only if...you have a warm weather getaway scheduled in the next few months. Let's say you know you will be in the tropics for the holidays...go ahead and buy a few summer pieces on sale. It's often difficult to find warm weather options (at great prices) during the colder months. However, this doesn't mean you should shop sale based on a fantasy, unplanned vacation:-)
Sandals- Classic, well-made sandals in a neutral color. Go ahead and tuck them away for next year!
Dresses- A beautiful, effortless summer dress or skirt. No trendy items...opt only for a classic style and color that you know you will love wearing next summer!
Swimwear- Again, only styles that will look timeless make the cut.
Easy silk dress. Love the color. I'd be happy to pull this out for vacation or next summer!
Timeless. Metallic. Chic.
Remember... only buy things you truly love! It's not a great deal if it's destined to hang in your closet unworn. Be choosy. When in doubt...
save your money! There's sure to be a new must-have item as the fall merchandise begins to hit the stores.
