Welcome to the blog...
This space is all about seeking
EXCITED CHILLS and creating a
simple, authentic, beautiful life.
I do hope you'll stay a while!
I'd like to address a comment I hear quite often.
A limiting belief that, for some, is certainly getting in the way of a great, modern wardrobe.
"I can't wear blue with blue denim." Excuse me?
I promise you, this is a complete myth. An old wive's tale perhaps...but definitely NOT true.
If you have somehow come to believe that you cannot wear solid blue with denim, you are seriously missing out. I am not sure how this common line of thinking began...but it seems to have a very strong hold on some women.
As a true lover of all things blue, I beg you to reconsider. I would be stuck in my bathrobe most mornings if I did not pair my jeans with something blue. My wardrobe contains lots of blue (mostly navy) and most days, I wear those pieces with blue denim. Usually, Citizens of Humanity - Emerson Slim Boyfriend - my favorite jeans on the planet!
If you have kept clear of topping your blue jeans with chambray or navy, I gently urge you to give it a go.
It's never too late. The look is fresh and modern without being trendy.
Here's some inspiration to help you ease in....
If the editor of French Vogue is mixing denim and blues, you can too! You've got this. Baby steps. I'd love to see your brave new looks.

Thanks for reading. More next week.
Funny thing about blogging breaks...sometimes you don't know you're taking one, until it's over.
I guess that's what I've just done:-)
The holidays were busy and wonderful...and have been behind us for months. I have been working on some new style projects and I'm finally ready to roll them out! The first one includes posting weekly updates here.
Most updates will center around how to rock great style and create an awesome wardrobe.
Others, like my upcoming post on baking my own bread, will focus on random topics related to living a life that's both simple and joy filled.

It's officially spring!
It's that time of year when we gaze into our closets and think, 'Ugh, I hate everything!' I think it happens to all of us...even Personal Stylists. I am forever surrounded by new merchandise at Anthropologie, but the spring pieces taunt me. The fabrics and shapes and colors scream, 'New beginning...update your wardrobe today!'
Compared to the fresh arrivals, my existing wardrobe seems dark and heavy and tired.
Good news! It's possible to put some spring into your wardrobe without spending a lot of money or launching a full-on closet makeover.
Here are my picks for perking up your look and your mood...
1. A few new t-shirts or tanks-
Go ahead and grab a few new t-shirts or tank tops. These pieces have already begun to hit the stores. They are available in an endless array of new colors and cuts...and can be found to fit any budget. The lifespan of these cotton workhorses is usually one season. Replace them and your whole wardrobe will feel brighter. They sell out quickly this time of year so don't wait!
2. Lighter denim-
If you don't already have some, now is the time to find a great pair of spring jeans. I love the feel and fit of lightweight denim. I also love the look of a really light blue wash....
A bit of back story: this love affair began in Swildens in Paris. A super chic French woman (is there any other kind?) was wearing a pair...in November...rolled at the ankle, with booties and a wide, perfectly broken-in leather belt. On top she paired a neutral nubby sweater, a leather jacket and of course, a scarf. I think I stalked her for 20 minutes. Making mental notes of what made her look so awesome, effortless and fabulous. It started with the jeans! They were a fantastic color.
Go try on some jeans. Buy the best quality you can afford or if you have a body that can rock
even the least expensive jeans well...buy a cheap pair! Every store has some, from Forever 21 to Gap to Neiman Marcus. The lighter color and fabric will make everything you wear with them seem more like spring!
3. A cotton sweater or blazer-
It's still chilly in most parts of the country. Be realistic. You'll need another layer over those new t's and tanks. A sweater or blazer in cotton will give you some warmth without feeling like a leftover winter layer. I love knit blazers because they feel like a sweater, but have a bit more structure. This addition can be soft and flowy or more sturdy and classic, just choose a neutral color that will work with the rest of your wardrobe.
4. A new scarf-
If you're a woman who doesn't wear scarves, I beg you to reconsider. They can truly be the difference between looking dressed and looking beautifully put together. Scarves come in every possible size, shape and color palette. They are usually a small investment with a huge style payoff. Many of my scarves were purchased from street vendors when traveling. I think the most expensive scarf in my closet cost $25 ...many were $5-7. They are not only wearable reminders of wonderful trips, they pull even the most random separates together.
I'm stopping at four pieces today...but I could go on and on. The feeling of warmer sun streaming in my windows has me ready to box up all of the winter clothes...but it was snowing this morning. So I'll wait.
